Let’s take a closer look on another OG pair this week! In ‘The Story Behind’ series we will take a closer look at the stories behind some sneakers. This week we continue with a must-have pair when it comes to OG pairs, the Jordan 1 High Royal.
The Jordan 1 High Royal, originally released in 1985, has been released four times now since then. In 1985, 2001, 2003 and the last time was in 2017. Other than the Jordan 1 Chicago and Jordan 1 Banned, Michael Jordan never wore the Jordan 1 Royal on the court. But this black and blue colorway is known as Michael Jordan’s favorite colorway and was also the first Jordan 1 available for purchase.
Michael never wore the Jordan 1 Royal on the court, but in 1985, Sports photographer Chuck Kohn, took a picture of Michael wearing them. Together with a matching, sleeveless royal blue and black flight suit. This picture became one of the first Jordan posters. Of course we're talking about this famous poster:
As we said, The Jordan 1 Royal was the only color-way out of the top 3 Jordan 1’s (Banned, Chicago and Royal) that Michael never wore on the court. But known as his favorite color, the Jordan 1 Royal is definitely a must-have for your collection!
